I choose a bench by the river today

I pick a bench by the river today

to close my eyes and let time flow through me,

to shut my eyes and feel time pass through me,

seconds dissolving before my patient breath.

seconds fading away with my calm breathing.

An eternity passes. I wait.

A long time goes by. I wait.

I watch as leaves grow vibrant with rain,

I watch as leaves become bright with rain,

flora flourishing in damp triumph

plants thriving in the wet

before the ground cracks into dust,

before the ground dries and cracks,

blowing clouds amongst the yellow grasses.

I stand among beds of violet, gold, scarlet,

I stand among beds of purple, gold, red,

inhaling the crisp crunch of fallen leaves
